for me it is a question of how do we creatively utilize or undermine our privileges, while acknowledging that what we do does not out balance the fundamental injustice of us being able to use privileges in the first place.
does that make sense?

I personally love blogging, although I generally stick to LiveJournal.
A blog that didn't even necessarily have to do with issues such as those but run by a black woman would be pretty kickass. I mean, I never see anything like that. Video game r...
When did you realize you were a quirky black girl?
when a friend told me i was one
What kind of quirky things do you like to do?
travel, read good books, love my daughter, write, draw, photocopy, learn languages, connect the dots, sleep in late, get angry, love whom i want, believe in the rebellious spirit, believe in freedom, eat what tastes good, dance, sing, believe in my right to laugh in the face of wrongness
How do you embrace your quirky?
by believing in a soul: by keeping 'inviolate the one interior space given to all'
What does your ideal quirky black girl world look like?
every black girl grows up knowing that she is beautiful and human and evolving

hey maia,
thanks for your awesome reply to my thread! & in another rockin one you mentioned the Flobots which made me smile. your Obama reflection was great. FB they're local denver based group so that is way exciting for me. Handlebars is one of my favorite songs. hope all is well!
hey maia,
I read your response to the QBG and class forum, nodded my head in agreement at many points....I'm still nodding my head.
the qbg site excites me because I'm meeting women who think like me, and share similar experiences...
I was particularly in tune with these two statements:
"'rejecting' my privilege is a function of privilege. because i have the choice which expressions of privilege i am going to forgo. and that choice is the mantle of privilege." ---- well said
"i guess what i am saying is that i would rather live in a cardboard box with a bunch of other folks living in cardboard boxes as we build a healthy community of survival and resistance from violence than make six figures and live in a condo and be afraid of my neighbours.but that is just me. and im a lil quirky sometimes"
---yess! I've repeatedly declared that to the classists in my family...so refreshing to know that someone else feels the same way...
finally Maia,I wanted to touch on your thoughts on us citizenship. I am a Canadian citizen with US residency. This year is the first year that I am permitted to apply for US citizenship, and I've contemplated not doing it at all. But my parents insist, and I understand that having dual citizenship will provide me (and my children in years to come) with options...and isn't that just what any quirky black girl wants:options??
glad you are feeling it sis! it's been brewing for a while now and I'm glad it's here too! i hope we are building a community that might might spark and support something great! So glad you are a part!
hi maia. thanks for asking about the menno connection. can we take the convo off blog space and into email? my email is sarahet@gmail.com . I LOVE YOUR PHOTOS!
