for me it is a question of how do we creatively utilize or undermine our privileges, while acknowledging that what we do does not out balance the fundamental injustice of us being able to use privileges in the first place. does that make sense? al...

hey maia,
I read your response to the QBG and class forum, nodded my head in agreement at many points....I'm still nodding my head.

the qbg site excites me because I'm meeting women who think like me, and share similar experiences...

I was particularly in tune with these two statements:

"'rejecting' my privilege is a function of privilege. because i have the choice which expressions of privilege i am going to forgo. and that choice is the mantle of privilege." ---- well said

"i guess what i am saying is that i would rather live in a cardboard box with a bunch of other folks living in cardboard boxes as we build a healthy community of survival and resistance from violence than make six figures and live in a condo and be afraid of my neighbours.but that is just me. and im a lil quirky sometimes"
---yess! I've repeatedly declared that to the classists in my family...so refreshing to know that someone else feels the same way...

finally Maia,I wanted to touch on your thoughts on us citizenship. I am a Canadian citizen with US residency. This year is the first year that I am permitted to apply for US citizenship, and I've contemplated not doing it at all. But my parents insist, and I understand that having dual citizenship will provide me (and my children in years to come) with options...and isn't that just what any quirky black girl wants:options??
