The movie ‘Babe.’
Not exactly profound, I know but my reason still.
I was born in upstate New York, farm animals where so commonplace that I recognised them as food and not creatures at first and that movie changed my outlook on that. I stopped ...

I love the EP she released, I can't wait for the album! "Sincerely Jane" and "Cybertronic Purgatory" are my favorites. Great lyrics and marriage of hip-hop and classical music, respectively.
This is just the reinforcement I need! I have been a vegan (yet again) for a year now. I say 'yet again' because when the movie 'Babe' came out--and yes I'm being totally serious--I stopped eating pork products. My family and friends where quick t...

Profile Information
When did you realize you were a quirky black girl?
Middle school. I went to a predominately black school but did not feel the U and the I, T, Y amongst my people that Queen Latifah so often rapped about. I liked reading old newspapers from 1912, learning ancient Greek and Latin and listening to Handel's Messiah. To paraphrase my classmates' sentiments, I was only 'black' in colour.
What does "quirky" mean to you?
Irreverent. Not readily coinciding with what is anticipated or expected.
What does "black" mean to you?
The absence of light. The colour perceived by an observer upon a substance's absorption of all radiation in the visible and non-visible spectrum.
What does "girl" mean to you?
A human female who has not yet endeavoured nor earned the right to be called a woman.
What kind of quirky things do you like to do?
Write and read fanfiction about Spock from the original series of Star Trek.
Reading anything Carl Hiaasan and Bridget Midway writes, I also liked Hot Blood IX and "Troublesome Minds" by David Galanter.
Listen to movie scores by John Williams, David Arnold, Michael Kamen, Hans Zimmer, Jerry Goldsmith and Micheal Giacchino and constructing lyrics for them.
Collect dusty Montovani, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald and Sara Vaughn records.
Watch the Golden Girls, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Wonderfalls, Star Trek TOS, and The Big Bang Theory.
How do you embrace your quirky?
I would love to say fully and completely but I often tuck it away until I grow comfortable with someone. But I am told it creeps out from the things I wear, the way I style my hair and my home, and despite my caution--the things I say.
What does your ideal quirky black girl world look like?
A world none too dissimilar to our own but run by a global law that is fair, effective, logical, and free of bias.
How did you hear about QBG?
I did a Google Search on 'How to do my hair like Janell Monae.'
