When did you realize you were a quirky black girl?
when I realized I am black... woman...and queer in this context :)
What does "quirky" mean to you?
beautiful and deep, transcendent of intelligible boxes, uniquely special with a twist of funk
What does "black" mean to you?
encompassing all things while being bound and indescribable by any one thing
What does "girl" mean to you?
it means having my mommy pick me up from school and saying "i love you, pretty girl" as she smiles; it means sitting on my aunty's deck on an early summer morning, waiting for breakfast; it means laughing out loud in church when i'm supposed to be quiet; it means wondering what my mommy was like as a little girl
What kind of quirky things do you like to do?
i like to push boundaries... especially as a religious ethicist :) i force the identities and experiences of black queers into the face of normative ethical sources - because that looks like morality to me :)
How do you embrace your quirky?
hmmm... ;)
What does your ideal quirky black girl world look like?
a place where justice is not a concept but a tangible reality, where peace is not an aim but the general state of things, where love is not limited but growing and renewing and stretching any and every limit
How did you hear about QBG?
through Queer Renaissance :)
