When did you realize you were a quirky black girl?
When I was about nine. No other black person I knew watched Aeon Flux or knew who Matchbox Twenty was, haha.
What does "quirky" mean to you?
Doing whatever you like, and not worrying what others thing about it. Being outside stereotypes, or fitting the description. As long as you're being authentic, ain't nothing wrong with being a loud black woman wearing curlers in her hair!
What does "black" mean to you?
Tragedy. Love. Pride. Hate. God. Family. Beauty. Mostly, I thank the Lord that I can identify myself with such a wonderful people.
What does "girl" mean to you?
Fun and young at heart! Strong minded and free!
What kind of quirky things do you like to do?
I love punk fashion (curca 1977). I don't know if listening to rock music is quirky since we started it! I love female singer-songwriters circa 1992-1998 (Alanis, Sarah, Tori, ect.). My hair is my crown! Natural and God given. I guess I'm quirky because I don't hide it :)
How do you embrace your quirky?
By being myself no matter how people look at me or what they say. I have trouble with this sometimes, but I try to be as authentic as I can.
What does your ideal quirky black girl world look like?
Open minded people who don't give in to societal pressures and ideals of beauty. People loving who they want, acknowledging and loving God and living life to the fullest!
