Quirky is Barefoot:

Following a sunkissed,September's silence
After remembering a moment of mahogany
My dear friend turned and questioned
"Why are you staring down at your feet?"
It took me a moment of thinking
I had to dig deep for the reply
I had to word it just write
And then I looked her in the eye
See, I've got these things called Barefoot Dreams
Do you know what they're all about?
If you don't, it's okay
Took me a while to figure mine out
Some dreams may come and go like four seasons with the coming year
But for as long as I can remember
These dreams have been write here
Here, no not in my heart
I'm talking about in my soul
These dreams if I don't fulfill them will haunt me when I get old
Barefoot, feeling every crack, stone, crevice and rock
Stepping over the harsh words of others
Going to reach the top
They're called barefoot dreams, nothing to protect them but my faith
They don't fade if I give up for the moment
I just need a breath while in the race
Barefoot-No additive, no preservative, no impurity
These dreams all natural and they came straight from me
So where are your barefoot dreams that you know to be real?
Don't walk in someone else's footsteps if their footsteps you don't feel

grandma's joy
Don't live your life fulfilling the dream that someone else thinks is right
Don't sell more of yourself in one day than you can buy back at midnight
For when night falls, you take life for what it is and give up all that it may seem
When night falls make sure that you are living your life

Eat ice cream cones (just the part in the cone...not the part on top)
Not let my food touch each other
organize my jewelry
rub his earlobe to feel for the fur

How do you embrace your quirky?

By uplifting my quirky black girl students in front of everyone...even the boys that make them cry on the bus
