Quirky Black Girls

Embrace the Quirky!

Has anyone dated someone for a period of time that doesn't eat like you eat? I find it very hard to meet someone who isn't a carnivore. The last guy I dated always had a comment about me when ever we went out to eat. We dated for a year. I told him up front that I was vegetarian so he said that he didn't have a problem with that, but apparently he did.

How do you deal and cope with this? Has this situation been a problem for you?

I'm the only veg in my house. My husband and both of my kids are meat eaters. Now, my oldest son is most likely to become a vegetarian. He's been refusing meat lately. The baby eats very little meat, simply because he eats very little of anything, really. My husband, on the other hand, is a HUGE fan of meat. We're Muslim, so there is already no pork. Recently, he gave up beef, too. He's considering going pescatarian (sp?) but I don't think I can convince him to give up meat completely. It's not that difficult for us. He's very considerate of me, and tries to make sure that we go places that have items I can eat on the menu. He tries not to eat too much in front of me, but he still makes me cook it. :)

Well my sistah you let me say that you can make it work. I have always wondered if there were households where one person does eat the same as the other and make it work. Out of all the kids in my family (four of us) who were all raised on meat, I am the only one who when in the opposite direction. I have always thought to myself. How am I going to cope if the man God sends in my life eats meat. You have shown me that it is possible. How do you manage cooking the meat though?? I find that when my parents cook chicken, fish and the one thing I hate!! CHITTERLINGS!! Girl be thankful and count your blessings that you don't eat that stuff. The smell of all of thoes makes me sick to my stomach. I never eaten chitterlings, but that tops as the worst. Even when chicken is fried the smell of it makes me sick. So is it that you are just used to cooking it because I can't cook anything with a face.. LOL..

Hey there!

Yes, I've dated a few omnivores and as you can tell with my use of (ed) after date, we aren't dating anymore. It's so hard because at times you both want to share your food with the other... cook for each other, etc. While most ppl say they're OK with your veg/vegan lifestyle, it's generally not true.

Yeah!! I am learning that.. I am tired of trying to make it work.. I need to meet someone who is just like me.. Not saying that I won't date them.. Just keep it at a friend level because I am not eating meat ever again..

You know what, Monica? Raw meat does bother me. Sometimes I hold my breath as I prepare it. Cooked meat isn't so bad, unless I'm focusing on it. Luckily, he's been getting more into stir fries and such, and I don't have too many large pieces of meat to deal with. When he wants a (turkey) burger or something, he cooks it himself. It's difficult, but I've been sneaking more veggies into his meals. :) Seriously, though, it IS possible, but it takes patience and work, just like any other relationship.
