Gender Test?
A South African runner, Caster Semenya has been asked to take a gender test under speculation that "she does not meet the requirements to compete as a woman."
Apparently she got really good, really fast. There's no mention of steroid use in the story I read.

lovely pic they chose, eh? this really really shows how the gender binary and sex dichotomy are just ridiculous!!!
Her whole life and all her energy is put into this all to be potentially taken away by the results of some "scientific" test to prove she's female or not? No sir, I don't like it!

i saw the picture and thought: why is this a debate?
you know i don't know much about sexuality and such, but i know the fact that they call it a "gender test" should strike me as problematic. either way, i think this story would be a great opening for a paper that i would love to write. i don't know the discourse, but i'd think about using this as a way to talk about gender and sports and hence how gender identity is complicating these binaries. wanna co-author something? get to read it at a swanky conference somewhere cool?
what/who should i read as a way for me to better understand this whole convo? email me a list!

This is so sad. She identifies as a female, was raised as a female... She even has female "parts" if they want to go there. What's the issue? I'm sad now.
