Greetings Feminists/Womanists/RadicalWOC's, Friends and Allies:

I'm putting together a contingent of feminists to go on THE VIEW and counter
the RAPE ILLITERACY expressed by Queen Whoopi & her Court. Can you help?
I've reached out to Melissa Harris-Lacewell, Gloria Feldt, Gloria Pan, Kim
Gandy and Katha Pollitt. I'm open to suggestions.

In case you haven't seen the video, Whoopi's assertions regarding consensual sex are what I'm most concerned about. The View has a big audience of women; asinine comments about consensual sex must not be left to stand uncountered. I am stunned by the level of RAPE ILLITERACY among people who should know better. As someone trained in feminist therapy and who is also a survivor, I cannot let this stand without at least trying to throw some very
heavy furniture at this fountain-of-stupidity. Can you help? Got an inside track with anyone on The View? Can you speak with expertise on issues of statutory rape, consensual sex, plea bargaining, long-term effects of rape, or other related issues? Got moxie?

I will say I did always enjoy the dialogue during the early years of the show even if I didn't agree with the opinions. I thought The View gave me a view of the various ways people look at the news of any given moment. However, it seems that since the drama surrounding various cast members on the show that the show has not been the same. Except for clips I've watched after the fact I have not tuned in for years. Finally, I think the loss of Joy Behar was bigger than even I thought looking at this recent event.

Thanks for sharing. It is a great blog post. I really wish the mainstream/manstream media would talk more about these views. Does anyone know if they are? I actually am in a partial moratorium of mainstream media right now aka I flip to them every once in awhile but never last longer than 10 mins. Anyway - thanks for sharing.
